Thumbnail Previews of PDFs Now Enabled for Everyone!

Published November 3, 2014 in Leadership

Image previews for uploaded files have been one of our most used and most liked features.  This spring we made significant updates to the platform to support super hi-res photos and non-web friendly file formats such as TIF files.  We also changed our scaling algorithm to generate thumbnails that letterbox previews, instead of cropping them.  Both of these improvements have been met with much fanfare, especially for photography and architectural design competitions.

2014-10-22_15_47_25-Thumbnail_Previews_of_PDFs_Now_Enabled_for_Everyone_-_Google_DocsWith last week’s updates we now bring you PDF thumbnails.  Often entrants upload PDFs and image files interchangeably, then when it comes time for judging there is confusion because image thumbnails don’t appear all the time.  Now the system will recognize PDFs as quickly as it does other image formats.  The first page of the PDF will be loaded and compressed.

Just like with images, a reviewer can zoom in by clicking the generated thumbnail, this will load the full PDF right in their web browser.
